KQED’s Mindshift web site tracks culture, technology tools, and research and methods in the field of education. A recent Mindshift article by Tina Barseghian highlighted a number of open education sites working to democratize education with free content. We are extremely pleased that Curriki was highlighted in her article as the second entry on a list of over 20 sites and designated as one of the best known of the open education sites.
“One of the most well-known, Curriki, encourages teachers to both publish and download materials — anything from a vocabulary quiz to a full biology textbook — and vets its content through member ratings and incentives such as the annual Summer of Content Awards”
– Tina Barseghian, Open Education Sites Offer Free Content for All
Some of the other sites mentioned in the article include:
- MIT Open CourseWare
- OER Commons from the Institute for the Study of Knowledge Management in Education
- Community College Consortium for Open Educational Resources (established by the Foothill-De Anza Community College District)
- HippoCampus from the Monterey Institute for Technology and Education
A full listing of sites can be found in the article at: http://mindshift.kqed.org/2011/10/open-education-sites-offer-free-content-for-all/
We at Curriki are gratified to be placed near the top of the list of sites compiled by Mindshift!
